I Love Gum!
Even as a kid I was a big gum chewer. If I found a penny I would ride my bike a mile to go to a little store to buy a piece of gum. I was the kid who would go to sleep with gum in my mouth and wake with gum in my hair.
I knew all the tricks to get gum out of your hair. I was very knowledgeable of all of the tricks my mom used to get gum out of my hair. Weather it was ice or peanut butter or as a last resort having it cut out of my hair.
I didn't care if I had to wear a funny spot in my hair because of gum. To me it was well worth the satisfaction of having the flavor in my mouth.
I was the kid who would get in trouble for playing with my gum. I loved how you could pull it like taffy and get it all stringy and then put it back in my mouth and start all over again.
I was well known for my huge bubbles that I could blow. I could even make a bubble in a bubble. If there was a gum trick I was busy practicing the art.
I would put my gum on my bed post and save it for the next day. I especially liked Bubble Gum!
I would only chew ABC Gum if it was from My Mom. I did draw the lines a little bit and I wouldn't chew gum if it fell on the floor.
In school I would get in trouble for chewing gum in class. I just didn't understand what the big deal was. Why was it against the rules in school?
After a while I got smart and figured out how to have gum and not get caught with it in school. It was almost a challenge to see how long I could have it in my mouth and not have anyone notice I had it.
I never was the kid who put gum under their desk. I was never the kid to toss it out so people could step in it. I had too much respect for the privilege of being able to chew gum.
I can remember in grade school incorporating gum into Art Projects.
I even chewed gum in Church. Actually my Grandma would give it to me so I would be quiet. I thought she was pretty clever and it was just a good reason to have a piece of gum. I was chewing gum for the Lord.
I had an Aunt who could pop and snap her gum in her teeth and I was totally fascinated. It was my gum goal to be able to master the Art of Popping Gum in my teeth.
I was never one of those gum chewing cow type chewers.
I had it down pat how to chew gum with style!! Chew it in such a way that other people just wanted to be able to chew gum the way I did.
When I got older I was even told by a man that the way I chewed gum was sexy. I thought that was pretty darn funny.
I am not sure how old I was when I started doing "Gum Art" but I thought it was so cool. People on the other hand thought it was a disgusting medium.
As a Pre-School Teacher my kids in my class always told me I smelled like Bubble Gum. I thought how cool they will have a core memory of me and gum as one!
I allowed kids in my class to chew gum but I warned them that not all Teachers shared my love for gum.
I noticed that hyperactive kids actually did better when they had gum.
In about 1998 to 2000 I was a little more serious about my Gum Art! I didn't care what people thought or said anymore.
Still to this day I Love Gum! My Grandson always asks me, hey Nahnie Got any Gum? Or Nahnie your purse smells like gum.
I save it I collect (my own of course) and every now and then I have a Gum Art Moment where I take all those pieces of Gum and make it into some Art.
So Enjoy!
